MESSAGE OF WELCOME
Dear Grenfell Campus students,
Every full- and part-time student who enrolls at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland is a member of the Grenfell Campus Student Union (GCSU) and of the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS). As members of the Federation we are able to campaign effectively for student rights along with over a half million other students from across the country with a powerful and united voice.
It is the duty of the elected members of the Grenfell Campus Student Union Council to address any and all concerns of students. The Student Union has an open-door policy and is always looking for new ways to improve the lives of its members. Collectively, the eleven members of the Student Union Council are responsible for representing students and their concerns to the University administration, to government, and to other external organizations. Furthermore, they are responsible for managing the day-to-day activities and services of the Union, like Grenfell students’ health plan and the GCSU Backlot. We are here to represent and work for you and your interests; please do not hesitate to approach any one of us with any issues or concerns you may have! We strive to build a united and egalitarian student community that is welcoming of social and cultural diversity and environmental sustainability.
Now that you know a little more about the workings of the Grenfell Campus Student Union, we encourage all of you to get involved! Whether it is through participating in campaigns to reduce tuition fees and improve student financial assistance, attending committee meetings, running for elected positions, participating in any of the clubs and societies that are ratified by the Union each semester, or by attending or helping to organize social events, we encourage you all to take an active role in your student union. We also encourage you to get involved with some of our caucus groups. If you self-identify with any of the following groups you are welcome to attend their meetings: Queer Caucus, Women’s Caucus, Indigenous Caucus and International Student Association Caucus.
Follow us on Twitter (@GCSU) for updates on student politics, community politics and important events on campus.
We look forward to working with you in the coming year!
