Council
Council members also need your input when making decisions that affect your Union. If you are interested in getting involved, please feel free to contact any of the Executive officers of the Union. The Union has two committees that are open to all members: the Entertainment Committee is responsible for providing input about the Backlot and planning events throughout the year, and the Environmental Affairs Committee is responsible for undertaking various environmental initiatives on campus.
Council meets regularly and all students are encouraged to attend the meetings. Notification of meeting times and dates are always available by contacting the GCSU for more information, or check back to this webpage. The GCSU offices are located on the second level of the Student Centre in AS276 (the offices behing "Counchland"), and can be contacted by phone at 637-6200 ext. 6230.
Councillors at Large
In the hands of your Councillors rest much responsibility while they act as key representatives to inform students and present issues important to each division of the College...
The roles of each Councillor at Large will be:
To represent and advocate for the Grenfell college student body with a focus on their designated faculty; To preform general office duties; To be a member of council committees; To attend weekly council meetings.
As according to our constitution, her responsibilities include:
-to record minutes of all meetings of Council;
-to record minutes of all General Assemblies;
-to prepare the written minutes of all meetings of Council and distribute them to all members of Council at least three (3) days prior to the next regular meeting of Council;
-to ensure that the minutes of Council meetings are made available to the Union members (by request) after they are ratified;
-to distribute the written minutes to the General Manager and Business Manager of the Union after they are ratified by Council.
As stated in our constitution, he will be responsible for:
-the calling to order of the meetings of Council;
-to conduct Council meetings in accordance with the latest edition of Robert's Rules of Order;
-present all motions and resolutions requiring a vote by Council;
-direct the Secretary in the recording of the minutes of Council
-call and chair General Assemblies in accordance with the latest edition of Robert's Rules of Order; and
-declare meetings of Council adjourned.
